SMBA Peewee Tier 1 - CNE Tournament Experience

Simcoe Minor Baseballs Peewee Tier 1 team had a very memorable experience over the time frame of August 20-28th, 2019.  
The team was entered into the CNE tournament in Toronto.  


This tournament is a 32 team tournament featuring only Peewee aged baseball players.  This season was the only opportunity for these players to participate in this tournament.  
All games were played at Coronation Park in Downtown Toronto.  This is a beautiful park, close to the water, and the Centre Island airport. 

The CNE tournament has a tournament within a tournament format for small centre teams like Simcoe.  This is called the Ron Pegg Cup, because the idea for this came from a long time baseball volunteer named Ron Pegg. 
There were 8 teams in the Ron Pegg, and they were Welland, Vaughan A, Halton Hills Select, Ancaster, Northumberland, Stratford, Georgina, and Simcoe.

Our team started the tournament on August 20th @ 9:30 am against the Welland Mustangs.  The boys played very well and came away with a 12-1 victory.

Game 2 had us matched up against a familiar opponent in Stratford @ 2PM on the same day.  We play Stratford in our Tier 1 ICBA league.
Again the boys played very well and came away with a 13-3 victory to move on to the finals of the Ron Pegg Cup.

Friday August 23rd, we made the trek back to Toronto to play in the Ron Pegg Cup Final against Northumberland Jacks.  We had seen this team play over the years, but had never played them. 
Our Peewees came out hungry for the Ron Pegg Cup, and scored 10 runs in the first inning.  We proceeded to have 20 hits during the game, and won the Ron Pegg Cup by a score of 21-2.  This was one of the most complete games this team has played in awhile.  Fielding, hitting, base running and pitching were all near perfect. 
MVP of this game was Jeryn Shortt. Here he is receiving his award from Ron Pegg and a Lions Club Member.

    Simcoe Minor Baseball is very close to resuming on field activities. We have a few more hurdles to overcome this week, but we are confident we should be able to get on the diamonds starting this Friday with our Tier 1 teams.

    Due to the "emergency brake" that has been imposed, SMBA has paused all baseball activities.  Please note, we are still planning for a season.  Once the brake/shutdown is lifted, we will be ready.   If you have not registered, please do so ASAP.
