This past weekend the 14U team (sponsored by Roulston's Pharmacy) travelled to Orillia to compete in the Summer Classic Tournament and came home as Finalists!
On Friday the Giants faced the Quinte Royals and although the Royals got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first, our Giants quickly answered back with five runs brought in during the second inning. Quinte chipped away throughout the game, but our Giants continued to add to their early lead and finished the game with a 9-6 win.
On Saturday the Giants took on the Collingwood Jays and, unfortunately, strong hitting just wasn’t enough as they fell 5-3. The Giants rallied back during their second game of the day and, despite trailing by as many as four runs, overcame the Midland Twins, 8-6.
On Sunday the Giants faced the Richmond Hill Phoenix in the Semis. The Giants were the first to get on the board, bringing in one run in the bottom of the first. The Phoenix answered back with four runs in the top of the second, but our Giants broke the scoring wide open in the bottom of the inning, bringing in nine runs. Both teams chopped away throughout, but our Giants held onto their lead, finishing the game 12-8. In the Finals, the Giants had a rematch against Quinte. Unfortunately, the early five-run lead in the first inning by the Royals proved to be too much to come back from and although the Giants brought in nine runs, they fell short, ending the game 12-9.
