This past weekend the 12U team (sponsored by Sierra Construction Group) travelled to Orillia to compete in the Summer Classic Tournament and came home as Finalists!
On Friday the team started the tournament with a game against the Valley East Jr. Voyageurs. Unfortunately, the Giants had trouble getting on the board, ending the game with a 10-0 loss.
The team rallied back on Saturday morning when they faced the Innisfil Cardinals. Although out Giants got off to an early lead, it slipped away at the top of the fifth. With two outs and the bases loaded, Simcoe ended the game on dramatic fashion when a single brought in two runs, ending the game with a 7-6 win. The Giants kept the momentum going into the afternoon as they faced the Oshawa Legionaires. They put up three runs in the first and second innings and, although they allowed three runs throughout the game, they sealed the deal with another three in the fifth inning, spending the game 9-3
.In the Semis on Sunday, the Giants faced the Thornhill Reds. Although our Giants got on the board in the first with one run, Thornhill quickly answered back with two. Our Giants recaptured the lead in the top of the third and continued to build upon it, ending the game 11-4. The Finals saw a rematch against the Jr. Voyageurs. Unlike the first, this game saw our Giants outhitting eighteen to ten. The game was tied in the bottom of the seventh when a single brought in the scoring run for Valley East, ending the game 9-8.
